A deeper understanding of birds should include a wider view of why so many undergo migrations to and from far flung areas. Points to ponder include why birds migrate (or why some stay put year-round), how they navigate across impressive distances (often at night), the mechanisms that power these extreme feats, and some mind-blowing examples of endurance. An overview of how this topic has been studied and how technologies are powering new discoveries will also help to unravel more mysteries of migration. We'll look at local examples of Colorado's migrating birds but also consider a global perspective to appreciate and protect our avian resources.
