Grades 3-4 Camp at Hallam Lake

Ready to explore with ACES? Join us in a quest to discover all the mysterious creatures roaming the Hallam Lake Nature Preserve and beyond. Build a fort with your fellow wild explorers to use as a point of departure into the natural world. Go back in time and investigate what roamed this area thousands of years ago. Field trips, guest appearances, and plenty of exploration will add zest to this exciting week of adventure. Ready, set, explore!

 

*No Camp on Friday in observance of Juneteenth holiday.

Join us for adventures into the wild! Together we'll get in touch with our own natural instincts, recognize the importance of a positive attitude during any adventure, experience how teamwork is crucial for a successful expedition, and develop confidence in facing the elements of nature! Get ready for hiking, off-trail exploration, and more.

Are you ready to take your adventuring to new heights and experience the wilderness in a whole new way? You will learn the skills of orienteering, how to use a map and compass and experience how teamwork is crucial for a successful expedition. You will take special trips to the wild places around Aspen while learning about the local plants and wildlife. Then, you’ll go on an overnight camping experience planned by YOU! This overnight includes a field trip to ACES at Toklat!

Schedule for the week:
Monday-Tuesday: 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Hallam Lake
Wednesday: Meet at the trailhead at 10 a.m. ready for the overnight
Thursday: Pickup at trailhead at 12 p.m.

 

 

Unlock the mysteries of nature! What’s in the water? How does a living organism work? How can you capture energy from nature? What stories do rocks tell about our landscape? We'll answer these questions and many more! Field trips, guest appearances and plenty of exploration will add zest to this exciting week of science.

Collaboration with the Red Brick Center for the Arts!

How do bees build hives? How are trees used to create homes for forest animals and plants? How do animals and plants work together to build protective, nurturing environments? This week, we will explore our Hallam Lake environments to inspire our own natural structures and spaces. Campers will split time between Hallam Lake and the Red Brick Studios.

 

Grab your hiking boots and hit the trail this summer with ACES! Hiking is the perfect way to learn about Aspen's landscape and wilderness. Hone your skills as a hiker by learning the basics of map reading, leave no trace ethics, how to pack a first aid kit, what to carry in your backpack, the importance of a positive attitude when hiking, and much more. Plentiful water, enough food, good hiking shoes, and a zest for hiking adventures are a must!

This camp is for students entering 3rd through 5th grade.

This week you will observe the natural world around Hallam Lake and—its plants, animals, ponds, and rivers—to decode the patterns and create your own in paintings, collages, prints, and sculptures! Campers will split time between Hallam Lake and the Red Brick Studios.

Do you ever wonder how things work or how they are made? Do you like to solve problems or do challenges? Throughout this week of hands-on investigations, we will ask and answer questions about real life. From how simple machines make everyday life possible to how food gives us and animals energy, we will discover the mysteries behind Hallam Lake and beyond.
